Bleeding between periods, heavy menstruation, bleeding after menopause, prolonged periods, absent periods for many months followed by heavy periods can all be due to thick endometrium, also called endometrial hyperplasia. It can sometimes be precursor of cancer uterus/ cancer endometrium. It usually occurs in perimenopause or menopause. It can be treated using mirena, progesterone tablets, injections or creams . Occasionally it needs uterus removal operation to prevent progression to cancer.
